The students at St Marylebone CE School and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Borough Academy are working on a V&A museum Art Deco project.
Inspired by the geometric forms of the Art Deco movement, year 7–9 groups explored geometric shapes within their immediate surroundings, and, through drawing, captured the lines and curves of objects in–and-out of the classroom. Their drawings were first simplified with collage and mixed media. Then, an app called KaleidaCam was introduced to create repetitive patterns. The groups then focused on creating a single motif design which they redrew and collaged.
The students at Haberdashers’ Borough transferred their motif design onto Styrofoam and with inks applied the process of printmaking onto paper.
Both schools will further investigate art and design practical processes and develop their Art Deco inspired motifs.
